Hello Subscriber!
I’m in a feisty mood today.
Being an entrepreneur is H.A.R.D.W.O.R.K. and I feel this strange combination of fatigue and energy. Running your own business is not for the faint of heart {as I sit here buried in upcoming tax preparations, trying to figure out my budget going forward, handling clients, courses, programs, and my own marketing}.
I feel a bit like preaching today. Throwback from my old days as a good little church girl. I’m still a good girl, actually. I think it’s something to be damn proud of.
I also will be swearing a lot.
Please take that irony with a sense of humor.
A few weeks ago I wrote a post called “Will Your Business Succeed?” and I talked about finding a word for the year – it’s super trendy. Mine was CHIPARDALLS.
Each letter stands for one attribute of #smallbiz entrepreneurship that I think is necessary if you’re going to make it out of the Internet alive.
So as we wrap up January, I’m going to espouse on the first letter, and get really honest.
CHANGE
How many times do you look at a successful business person and think, “Darn it all! That’s some polished work. I’ll never get there!”
Yeah. Well…let’s take a walk down memory lane, when I first started Fabulous Blogging. Talk about change. And…ugly.
Don’t be fooled by what you see today when you look around at all those businesses you admire. Chances are, their archives weren’t very pretty either. It should actually make you happy! What it means is…all successful businesses start out ugly too. So your ugly ass website or poor graphics does NOT mean you won’t succeed.
Score.
But here’s the sobering lesson….
If it took a lot of change to get where I am today, what makes me think it won’t take a lot more change to get where I want to be tomorrow?
There’s no such thing as “arriving”.
That’s the dream and the fantasy people will try to sell you. “Oh if you just do this, you’ll make millions and then you can sit on a beach in Figi with a laptop and pina colada.”
Bullshit.
The need to change is about the only thing that doesn’t change.
You will have to change and improve throughout your entire business career. If you are waiting for that moment when you can stop, I suggest you hop off this ride and go work for the Post Office. And on the Internet, change happens about every five minutes, not five years.
I’m not trying to burst anyone’s bubble. Because honestly? Once you embrace that reality? Working for yourself is an amazing, never-boring, thrilling journey that I don’t regret for one single moment. It’s imaginative, fun, exciting, exhausting, and changes like a 12-year-old girl in the Justice dressing room before her first dance.
Next, think about where you want to go, and how to get there.
Guess what?
You can’t use the same methods that got you where you are now. They won’t work.
You need a new method. A new way. A new perspective.
So not only is change necessary, it’s that terrifying-unpredictable-will-this-worktype change that you need.
Change like that needs a companion.
And I’m getting ready to share with you the three specific things that I think you need in your #smallbiz tool belt in order to navigate the waters of change….which, as I said before…are here to stay.
I’ll be sharing that with my subscribers on Monday, and if you want in on it, subscribe below!
All my preachin’ mojo (that’s a bizarre thought)
