I was blown away the other day by this quiz I saw on a branding website. You can see it here:
http://www.sarahhart.ca/blog/quiz/
Aside from the fact that it is awesome, valuable, and fun, it’s also quite clever from a marketing perspective. Prospective clients take her quiz and need to submit an email address in order to get the results of their particular style.
She further capitalizes on her audience’s interest by giving you the option for all the results if you go ahead and share the quiz on Facebook.
This is a perfect example of providing so much value (and entertainment) that your audience is happy to share your content and give you her email address.
Would you like to know how she did it?
Step One – Create one landing page for each result
Once you have the different results planned out for your quiz, you need to create a landing page for every result. This way, when Playbuzz generates the results of the quiz, you can add the link to that particular landing page where they can fill out their email address and get their result.
Sarah used LeadPages, which is not cheap, but really – having a landing page software is the easiest way to make this work efficiently and quickly. If you have six possible results, you need six landing pages. Save those links for when you create the quiz. My preferred platform is ClickFunnels.
Step Two – Create the download for each result
I got my result and it was beautiful! She’s a branding specialist so this is appropriate. However, if your blog is more practical, you don’t have to make your download results amazing in style…just be useful, helpful, and of value, and people will love it!
Create your download with Canva, Photoshop, or good ol’ fashioned Google docs. Then save them as PDF’s.
Each download is connected to a particular pop-up on the Landing Page. In LeadPages, you can have it send a Lead Magnet delivery after the email is filled out. Every email address gets funneled into the main list, but she can send individual lead magnets depending on the pop-up and landing page the person has landed on. LeadPages integrates with any kind of email service provider – Mailchimp, Aweber, etc.
One note here! In her case, she might want to know who is getting what result. This way she can segment her list and send certain types of customers certain content. To do that, you need to create 6 invisible fields in your Mailchimp list and have them match with the results. Then when the email address gets stored in Mailchimp, you can see what result they were and target your email marketing efforts to their preferences.
Step Three – Create a generic thank you page that offers something just a little bit more!
With Sarah’s quiz, when you put your email address in, you are directed to a thank you page that says your result is in your email…BUT WAIT…wouldn’t it be cool to see all six results? If so, share the quiz and receive all six for free.
This is a prime opportunity to get your prospective customers to do something just a tad more in exchange for more value.
A lot of people offer an e-book or workbook that costs a small amount.
Create the generic thank you page in LeadPages with the offer for just a bit more. You can add a Paypal button, have them sign up for an upcoming workshop, share your Facebook page, tweet something out, etc.
This thank you page link must be inserted on all six landing pages. When you create the landing page with the pop-up, it asks you where to send the person after the email is filled out.
Now do you want to get fancy? Insert a Facebook pixel in that thank you page. Every time someone does the quiz, it’ll record it in your ads manager. Then you can create a Facebook ad to that specific audience of people. The people who have already shown interest in your website and offering.
Step Four – Create the quiz using PlayBuzz
This is the easiest (and free) way to create a quiz without having to install anything extra on your site. You simply have to embed the quiz on a page once you’re done.
To make one like she did, you have to choose the personality quiz option.
As you go through making the quiz, consider that you need to figure out how many options equals a certain result. The reason Sarah’s works so well is because it’s also spot on. If you go through the quiz and feel like she didn’t get it right, you’re left feeling “meh”. So take some time to develop your quiz and come up with nice imagery to go with it.
Step Five – Add the link to each landing page on the quiz results page
You have to make sure the correct link is added to the correct corresponding result.
This is how it flows. Someone takes your quiz and gets a particular result. The link leads them to the landing page corresponding with that result. Then, the person puts in their email address and LeadPages funnels the email into your list and delivers the appropriate lead magnet to their email.
The person is funneled to the thank you page where he/she can do something more in exchange for more value.
Step Six – Create a quiz page on your site
Go to your dashboard and create a new page. Then embed the Playbuzz code onto your page. Publish that bad boy!
Step Seven – Advertise your page
You can create a pop-up on your site that leads to the quiz, add a link on your menu bar, run a Facebook ad, whatever you wish. Just get some eyes on your quiz!

Hi there,
Thank you for this post, it is exactly what I need for my website!
I’ve been trying to set up a Playbuzz personality quiz but I can’t seem to find out how to add a link to the results of the quiz in order to take people to my ‘get email landing’ page.
Can you please tell me how I should do that?
Many many thanks for your help!
